It’s happened, Oppo. I’m now getting paid to write about that subject we all love. Is it for Road and Track? No. Car and Driver? No. Yahoo Autos? No.

It’s for CarInsuranceQuotes.com. They wanted some automotive content, so they asked me to do it.

The ZelectricBug is actually really interesting. The Beetles themselves are actually in really good condition to start with, or are restored to nearly perfect condition, and the batteries they’re putting in them are actually top of the line tech. They say it’s about $50k-60k in battery tech and modifying costs. You can get them to convert pretty much any air-cooled VW derivative, from Beetles to Karmann Ghias to Porsche 356s.

Also, the battery conversion more or less doubles the HP and allows you to actually travel at highway speeds in a Beetle. It’s kind of like they’ve done a pro-touring build on a Beetle.
